Gonzo’s Quest

Gonzo's Quest Slot Review

It's back in time to 1541 and some Spanish explorers find themselves off the coast of Peru. One of these explorers is Gonzo and as we see in the game's introduction, he steals a treasure map and heads off on his own hoping to make his fortune as he searches for the lost city of Eldorado. How you actually lose something as big as a city is beyond me. Gonzo is apparently based on the real-life character Gonzalo Pizzaro. I bet he never imagined he’d end up in a slot game

'Gonzo's Quest' is a great slot from NetEnt and he's on the left hand side of the screen paying attention to the spinning reels. He's probably just having some time off from his treasure quest as we have one of our own.

This is a 3D five-reel game that has a total of three rows of symbols and there are a fixed number of 20 paylines for you to hopefully win some treasure on. The cost of playing the game goes from £0.20 all the way up to £200. That's a wide range so you shouldn't have a problem finding a level at which you can comfortably play at without any financial worries coming into play. The reels don't exactly spin in this game, it simply drops a new set of symbols down to replace the ones that fall out of the reels. Not exactly thrilling if you love watching those reels spinning away.

The symbols in this game fit in with the Peruvian theme, though there's no sign of Paddington Bear. They are a series of blue, green, yellow, brown, red, turquoise and purple masks and faces that are drawn on square stones. Not the prettiest looking set of symbols you'll see all year that is for sure. The blue stone symbol is the best payer and five of those on an active payline pays you 2500x your line bet.

The wild symbol in this game is the grey stone that has a question mark on it. This can substitute for other symbols to create winning combinations but not the scatter symbol. That’s the golden icon which plays an important part in triggering the bonus game.

There’s also the Avalanche Feature which gives you the chance to get more than one win from each play. When you get a winning combination those winning symbols disappear and a new set drop down. The reels are then reassessed to see if that’s caused any new wins. If there are then that’s really good news as multipliers come into play. A second consecutive wins gives you a 2x multiplier, 3x for a third and four or more get a 5x multiplier.

Bonus Games

The bonus game is entitled the Free Fall Round. It’s triggered by three of more of the golden scatter symbols appearing anywhere on the reels. This awards you ten free falls with a 3x multiplier attached to any winning combinations that you get. It’s also possible to get higher multipliers all the way up to 15x courtesy of the Avalanche Feature. Also possible is retriggering the Free Falls which is just another word for Free Spins really but just reflects the way the symbols move in this game.

Conclusion

This really is a great little game to play. The animation of Gonzo is a laugh and makes up for the slightly uninspiring symbols. The Avalanche Feature certainly helps get you some good wins and the Free Fall Round gives you a good chance of getting some treasure of your own. Definitely recommended.
