Live Baccarat: Real Cards, Live Dealers, Real-Time Play
Live baccarat is baccarat played against a real dealer in a purpose-built studio, streamed to your screen in real time. There are no computer-generated outcomes - a physical dealer draws physical cards from a real shoe, and the results land just as they would at a casino table. The difference is you are watching through a camera feed rather than sitting at the felt yourself.
For most players, live baccarat is the most engaging version of the game. How Live Baccarat Works

Card values in baccarat work differently to most games:
- Aces count as 1
- 2 through 9 count at face value
- Tens, Jacks, Queens, Kings all count as 0
When a hand total goes above 9, only the second digit counts. A 7 and an 8 add up to 15, which becomes 5 in baccarat. A 9 and a 6 add up to 15, also 5. The maximum hand value is always 9, and a two-card hand of 8 or 9 is called a natural - no further cards are drawn for either side when a natural appears.
The Third Card Rule
You never have to apply the third card rule yourself - the dealer follows it automatically. But understanding it helps you follow the action without confusion.
Player hand: Draws a third card if the initial total is 0 to 5. Stands on 6 or 7. Stands on 8 or 9 (natural).
Banker hand: Always draws on 0, 1, or 2. On totals of 3 through 6, whether the Banker draws depends on the value of the Player's third card - there is a fixed table governing each scenario. On 7, the Banker stands. On 8 or 9, no further cards are drawn by either side.
The reason the Banker drawing rules are more complicated is that the Player always acts first, and the Banker's decision incorporates what the Player drew. The result is that the Banker hand wins slightly more often than the Player hand over a long run - which is why the Banker bet carries a commission.
The Three Main Bets
Banker Bet - House Edge 1.06%
The Banker bet is the best-value option at the live baccarat table. Because the Banker hand wins more often than the Player hand, casinos charge a 5% commission on winning Banker bets. Even with that commission factored in, the house edge sits at approximately 1.06% - lower than almost any other live casino game. Serious baccarat players bet Banker as a default.
Player Bet - House Edge 1.24%
The Player bet pays even money with no commission deducted. The house edge is slightly higher at 1.24%, which is still very competitive for a live casino game. Tie Bet - House Edge 14.36%

Live baccarat tables from major providers offer a range of optional side bets. These vary by table and provider, but the most common include:
Player Pair / Banker Pair: Bets that the first two cards of the Player or Banker hand will be a matching pair (same rank). Typically pays 11:1. House edge varies but is generally in the 10-11% range.
Perfect Pair: A more specific version - the pair must be an identical pair (same rank and same suit). Pays higher, but the house edge is significantly steeper.
Either Pair: Wins if either the Player or Banker hand opens with a pair. Pays 5:1 on most tables.
Dragon Bonus: Available on both the Player and Banker side. Pays based on how large the winning margin is - a natural that wins pays one amount, a win by five or more points pays more. Payouts reach as high as 30:1 for a non-natural win by nine points.
Lucky Six: Pays if the Banker wins with a total of 6. Usually pays 12:1 if it takes three cards, 20:1 with two cards. House edge is high.
The honest summary on side bets: every one carries a higher house edge than the core Banker or Player bet. They add variety and occasional big payouts, but they are not how you extend a session efficiently.
Live Baccarat Variants
Beyond standard live baccarat, Evolution and other providers offer several variants you will encounter at most online casinos:
Baccarat Squeeze: The dealer slowly bends and reveals the cards rather than flipping them instantly. Adds tension to each hand. Game pace is slower, but many players find it more immersive.
