What Is Online Blackjack?

Basic strategy charts are freely available and widely used. There is nothing wrong with consulting one while you play - online blackjack gives you the time to check your decisions.

Side Bets

Most online blackjack games offer at least one side bet option. Common ones include Perfect Pairs (pays out if your two cards match in rank), 21+3 (a three-card poker hand using your two cards and the dealer's upcard), and Insurance (offered when the dealer shows an ace).

Insurance is worth addressing specifically: it pays 2 to 1 if the dealer has blackjack, but the house edge on it is around 7.4% with a standard deck. Basic strategy is clear - decline insurance every time.

Other side bets carry varying house edges, typically ranging from 3% to over 10%. They add variety and the potential for large payouts from small stakes, but they come at a cost to your overall return. Treat them as optional entertainment rather than part of your core strategy.
