Magic Boxes

Magic Boxes Slot Review

Just what is magic about the boxes I hear you wondering? Well, all will be revealed later on in this review of ‘Magic Boxes’ from top slot company Microgaming. No sign of Paul Daniels though so that’s one good bit of news in the opening paragraph.

This game is set in what looks like one of those gloomy old theatres that failed in its latest grant application. The game does have a bit of a 19th century feel to it and it’s a little bit spooky too.

This is a five-reel game that has three rows of symbols and a total of 25 paylines that contain possible winning combinations. Those 25 paylines aren’t fixed so you can decide yourself just how many to activate. Playing the game will cost you between £0.01 and £100. Just go for a level that you feel totally comfortable with.

The symbols in the game include a spinning top, a magician’s hat and wand, a wooden train and some playing cards. There’s a lot more playing card related symbols as we get the nine to Ace symbols.

There are three magic box symbols, one red, another blue and a green one. These are all wild symbols and when they substitute for other symbols that’s why they are so magical. This really gives you a good chance to get some winning combinations.

Have a good look through the paytable before putting some of your real cash into this game. The more you know about it, the better.

Bonus Game

In the base game there is a gamble feature. Now remember you don’t have to go for this and it’s best to just forget it and go onto the next spin of the reels. If you do go for the gamble, this is the usual guess the next card feature. Guess correctly the colour of the next card to double a win and the next suit to quadruple it. This isn’t as easy as it sounds so be wary of this feature.

If you can get at least three of he eight ball scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, this get you some free spins. Three get you eight free spins, four win you 16 and five reward you with 24 free spins.

Those magic box wild symbols really help you in the free spins round. They only appear on the second, third and fourth reels but will add a multiplier to the wins they create that can be as high as 4x. The red box doubles wins, it’s 3x for the green box and 4x for the blue one. If different coloured boxes occur on the same winning spin but are on different paylines, the lower multiplier gets switched to the higher one so smiles all around.

Conclusion

There's plenty happening in this game. The magic boxes live up to their name thanks to their abilities as wild symbols in both the base game and the free spins bonus round. There are some good wins to be had here but be careful with that gamble feature, it can really cost you some good wins.
