Retro Reels

Retro Reels Slot Review

Here’s a game that really takes a good look back at the history of slot games. Microgaming have produced many a slot with new features and sophisticated symbols but in ‘Retro Reels’ they go back in time for a game that will bring back lots of memories for older players.

It’s not a total homage to the past because even though the symbols are those that used to be played in the past, the look of the game doesn’t quite match those days. Rather than it being a three reel game with three rows, we get five reels so that’s a bit of a change. The game has 20 paylines which is a fair few more than older games used to have, indeed sometimes there were only one payline. Playing this game costs between £0.01 and £100, that's a good range and will perfectly suit those of you who are playing for fun and others who have dream of getting big cash wins.

Symbols include old favourites, the bars (single and double), plums, 7’s, cherries, lemons and a large dollar sign. The game doesn't contain a wild symbol so that's a bit of a disappointment. There is however a scatter symbol here which is the ‘5 Free Spins Bonus.’ That, as you might have guessed already, helps get you into the bonus feature. The top paying symbol is the dollar sign and five of those can win you 10000x your line bet.

If you want to get all the information about how the game runs then have a good look at the paytable. This tells you what all the winning combinations pay out, full information about the bonus game and tells you exactly what the respin feature is all about, more about that in a moment.

All the control buttons are situated underneath the reels. This includes an autoplay feature that can set either five or ten automated spins.

Bonus Games

You need at least two of the scatter symbols to trigger the free spins round. That’s one less than usual but from my experience of playing the game, this reduction doesn’t see the free spins round being triggered more often.

If you get two scatters that gets you ten free spins. Three takes that up to 15, four to 20 and five means you have 25 free spins to play with.

This is one of those games that features the Respin Feature. If you’re close to a winning combination at the end of a spin there’s the chance to respin one of the reels again. Now this comes at a price and the more likely the respin is to get you a win, the higher the cost of the respin will be. Just be careful with this and don’t waste too much cash on it.

Conclusion

A good slot from Microgaming that manages to recreate the old style game but also bring in some new features. The bonus game can definitely be profitable, be careful with the respin feature though. It's easy to get carried away with this and end up messing about with your financial budget.
