Legend of Olympus

Legend of Olympus Slot Review

We're back to Ancient Greece for this slot game from hugely successful company Microgaming who keep coming up with the goods. As is always the case with Microgaming slot releases, this is full of interesting features and excellent chances to get some good wins.

This is a five-reel game that has a total of 20 paylines. Playing the game costs between £0.01 and £40. In the background you can see the Gods in Olympus, all 12 of them who live on the Greek mountain long before their economy collapsed. On the left hand side of the reels we have Zeus watching what’s going on and on the right hand side (get ready to boo) it’s Hades, the God of the underworld (no, not the factory in Corrie). Zeus has his arms folded most the time looking all powerful, Hades just looks creepy and you wouldn't trust him an inch. The actual reels are set inside the two big columns of a temple and look really impressive.

Symbols in the game are a spear, a winged helmet, Ares, Poseidon, Hades, Zeus, Aphrodite a shield and a golden goblet.

The wild symbol is Hades (what’s he done to deserve such an honour?) and can substitute for other symbols to get you wins. He’s still the King of the Underworld though so don’t thank him too much. The free spin symbol is Zeus and there’s also a bonus symbol which is a gold coin. It's good to see that all the symbols are theme-related.

Also in this game there is a bonus feature. After each win during the base game you’ll be offered the chance to gamble it. You don’t have to and if you wish, just press spin and start another game. If you do accept the gamble then we’re back to the guess the next card routine. Either try to double a win by guessing the colour of the next card or try and guess the suit of the next card and quadruple your win. It all sounds good but this isn’t easy at all (try it with a pack of cards) and can cost you some good wins.

Full information about how to play the game is available in the paytable and game rules. Also have some free spins to get used to how the game runs.

Bonus Games

Three of the Zeus scatter symbols will gain you entry into the free spins bonus round. It all gets a bit dramatic now because Zeus suddenly strikes Hades with some lightning bolts (always a bit painful). Each time he does this it reveals a number of free spins. Not surprisingly when all this comes to an end Hades falls over and leaves the screen probably to get some emergency treatment. You then get to play with the number of free spins you’ve won and if Zeus turns up again in the required numbers you can again re-trigger the free spins.

There’s also the River Styx Bonus and you need to get three of the gold coin bonus symbols anywhere on the reels to trigger this. When that is done you’re shown a total of three spinning gold coins. Your hope is that by clicking on them you’ll reveal two gold ones that will see you in with a chance of winning more money. If your luck is in you'll end up in part two of the bonus where there are treasure chests, click on them to reveal your win.

Conclusion

One of the best games I've reviewed. It looks and sounds great and the bonus games are great fun to play. The gamble feature could be better, don't put much emphasis on it as you can just waste good wins. An excellent game otherwise.
