Rhyming Reels – Old King Cole

Rhyming Reels - Old King Cole Slot Review

Here’s another one of Microgaming’s successful Rhyming Reels games. These are based on those children’s nursery rhymes and others include Jack and Jill ( a rather sexier version there). Old King Cole is another handy theme for a slot game and Microgaming have done a pretty good job with it here.

This game has five reels, three rows of symbols and they are packed with a total of 20 paylines. They aren’t a fixed amount so it’s up to you to decide just how many you activate for each of the spins. Playing this costs between £0.01 and £200 if you’re a high roller out to win big money. Just bet what you can safely afford to lose.

Symbols in the game include a pipe, three fiddlers, a bowl of cereal, a girl band and a hookah. There’s also the King himself having a good old laugh while wearing his crown (not the one that Jack broke). Perhaps he’s been having a good old session on the hookah.

There are two wild symbols in this game, namely the Old King Cole logo and a gold disc. Both can substitute for other symbols in order to get you some winning combinations. Five of the Old King Cole symbols pays you 25000x your line bet so look out for that. Neither can replace the crown which is the scatter in this game. Five of those anywhere on the reels wins you 150x your bet.

To boost your knowledge of the game, go through the paytable and have some free games too. All that will really help prepare you well.

Bonus Games

Three of the crown scatter symbols will get you into the free spins round. These can be anywhere on the reels so that means you don’t have to be activating too many paylines. You win 12 free spins and there’s random multiplier here that can be as high as 7x. It’s also possible to re-trigger the free spins.

Also in the game is a gamble feature. When you get a winning combination in the base game, the opportunity to gamble it is given to you. It’s entirely up to you whether you want to accept the challenge. If you want just forget it and go onto the next spin. If you do accept the gamble the task you have is to decide if the next card will be red or black to double your win. Be a bit braver and you can quadruple your win by correctly naming the next suit. This is so risky and best only used to try and boost some small wins if you can afford to lose them as that's what happens when you get it wrong.

Conclusion

An entertaining game to play. The theme is a good one though we don't actually get to see Old King Cole marching his men up or down a hill. The bonus game is a decent one if you can get the high multiplier and also re-trigger the free spins. Be careful with that gamble feature though.
