Western Frontier Slot Review

It’s time to take a trip to the Wild West for this slot game release from Microgaming. If you love all those old John Wayne movies, then this is going to be right up your street. As ever with Microgaming you’re guaranteed lots of fun with a creative bonus feature and plenty of chances to get some good wins.

In the background we can see plenty of roc formations in the desert but no sign of any cowboys or Indians. This is a five-reel game that has three rows of entertaining looking symbols and 15 paylines that are hopefully full of winning combinations. You don’t have to be activating all of the paylines and it’ll cost you between £0.01 and £75 to play the game. Just work out a financial budget and get ready for some fun playing this game.

The symbols in ‘Western Frontier’ include a covered wagon (that may or may not need painting), a camp fire, tepees and one that has a wagon wheel, tomahawk and a gun. We also get the nine to Ace playing card symbols, a couple too many really and why not split up that symbol with the weapons to give us more theme-related symbols?

The wild symbol is the horse on its hind legs with the green and starry sky in the background. This can substitute for other symbols to get you some useful wins. It can’t sub for the golden horseshoe which is the scatter symbol in this game.

Bonus Games

Three of the golden horseshoe scatter symbols anywhere on the reels at the end of a spin will get you into the Indian free spins bonus round. Eight free spins are the order of the day and if the wild gets you a winning combination that win is doubled.

During the Indian feature the game will keep count of just how many wilds turn up on the reels. Then when the Cowboy feature begins those wilds are totalled up. If you get between none and three wilds then you get eight free spins and a 2x multiplier. Four to seven wilds takes that up to ten free spins with a 3x multiplier. Eight to 11 sees it jump up to 12 free spins with a 4x multiplier and 12 to 15 wilds will have you playing with 14 free spins and a 5x multiplier. If your luck is really in and you get 16 or more wilds then you win 16 free spins with a tasty 6x multiplier. It’s possible to win more spins in the game by landing more golden horseshoes.

The game also has a gamble feature and it’s the trusty old card game again. Double your win by correctly guessing the colour of the next card but get it wrong and you lose all your winnings.

Conclusion

There’s some really nice touches in this entertaining game. The star of the show is the bonus game which can really get you some good wins especially if the wilds keep coming along to help you.
