X-Men Slot Review
The X-Men comic book has been with us since the 1960s and is another fantastic creation by the incredible Stan Lee. Since the comic book became a movie franchise it's grown larger and larger with a series of movies that show other Marvel characters just how to be successful at the box office. This slot game from Playtech is also a massive success which is no real surprise as they have been producing top games for all the 21st century.
'X-Men' is a five reel game that has 25 paylines for you to try and win some cash on. Playing the game sees you having to choose from a total of eight coin denominations that range from £0.01 to £5. You then have to decide just how many of the paylines you wish to activate for the next spin and how many of between one and ten coins are played on each spin. The maximum bet is £1250 so if you're a high roller then you'll love this game. Most mere mortals simply have to choose a level that fits in with your financial budget.
What I really love about this game is that all of the symbols are theme related and there's no playing card symbols here to pad the reels out. Instead we have the characters we've grown to love and hate in the comics and the movies. They include Professor X, Wolverine, Storm, Mystique, Magneto, Cyclops, Juggernaut and Nightcrawler. Sadly no Beast, Angel or Ice Man but that's just me showing my love for the original comics and showing my age at the same time. Some of the graphics don't exactly look like the movie characters but they're still pretty good.
The wild in this game is Juggernaut who substitutes for other symbols to help you create winning combinations. His symbol becomes animated when he does so as he seems to want to head butt you. Strange to have a villainous mutant helping you out. The scatter symbol is the X-Men logo.
Bonus Games
There are two bonus games and a progressive jackpot in this game. The X-Feature is triggered when only superheroes are on the five positions on the second, third and fourth reels that form an X. This pays you five times your total bet which is pretty good. If you're in the free spins round this can't be triggered.
Onto that free spins round then and to get into this you need three or more of the X-Men logo scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. There are two modes in this round, the Heroes mode and the Villains mode. There are two modes here, the Heroes Mode and the Villains Mode. When the free spins begin you find yourself in Heroes mode with unlimited free spins. Here all the symbols are superheroes but there's Magneto as a wild. If he ends up on the third reel then you switch to the Villains Mode.
In Villains Mode you have eight free spins and as you might guess the symbols are the villains with Professor Xavier as a wild. If he ends up on the third reel then it's back to the Heroes Mode. It's important that he appears before the end of the eight free spins in order to switch modes and carry on the free spins. This round can go on for a fair time and be really profitable.
Also in this game there's the Marvel Multi-Level Mystery Progressive Jackpot that features in this and other Marvel slots. It appears randomly but if you play at higher levels then you have a better chance of it appearing. There are four levels, namely being Power Jackpot, Extra Power Jackpot, Super Power Jackpot and Ultimate Power Jackpot. Entering the game means you will win one of those jackpots. There are 20 squares and clicking on one of them reveals one of the four jackpot symbols. If you can find three matching symbols then well done because you've won that jackpot.
Conclusion
This really is a great game to play. The theme is totally adhered to and the bonus games are excellent and very profitable. Definitely recommended.
