Phantom Cash

Phantom Cash Slot Review

Time for a spooky slot here with ‘Phantom Cash’ from Microgaming who continue to put out some excellent slot games.
The game has five reels and a total of 25 paylines. Those are fixed so there’s no need for you to decide how many to activate. The cost of playing the game is therefore slightly dearer than some but don’t let that scare you off playing this ghostly game. The cost ranges from £0.25 to £50 which isn’t too bad a range.

There’s a dark and mysterious look to the game as you might expect. These aren’t jolly cartoonish ghosts but not too ghoulish. In the backdrop we see what looks like a Victorian scene with lots of pipes and smoke. The soundtrack is definitely a spooky one and didn’t have me reaching for the mute button.

The symbols include a yellow spirit, a red creature that’s seen better days (but pays 10,000x your line bet for five symbols), a blue ghost and a yellow spirit who doesn’t look to dissimilar from Frankenstein’s monster. We also get the nine to Ace playing card symbols which is too many really and don’t even have a look that fits in with the theme.

The wild symbols in ‘Phantom Cash’ are the two ghost catchers (rather than ghostbusters) who are Thurmingham and Carstairs. They can substitute for other symbols to earn you some wins but not the scatter symbol which is the haunted house. If they get you a winning combination then that’ll double your win. Thurmingham only appears on the first reel and Carstairs the fifth. I'm not sure why they're so far apart but a lot of double acts don't get on do they?

Bonus Games

The Ghost Zap Feature can be triggered if three of the haunted house symbols appear anywhere on the reels. The fact it’s anywhere on the reels isn’t so significant here due to the fact that all the paylines are fixed.

At the top of the screen you’ll see the Ghost Meter and this is really important. It starts at eight and your task is to get that number of ghosts. Cue Thurmingham and Carstairs who know how to catch some ghosts. If any of the ghosts end up on the same row as one of the ghost catchers then they get caught and there’s a 2x multiplier. Your luck is really in if both Thurmingham and Carstairs end up on the same row as a ghost because that takes the multiplier up to 4x. If three or more of the scatter symbols turn up again then you get more free spins.

Conclusion

Another entertaining slot from Microgaming. There's plenty to keep you busy here what with all the bonuses that are available. If you can catch the ghosts then you'll certainly be celebrating. The spooky soundtrack and theme for the game are enjoyable too so overall this is definitely recommended.
